First hotel

Hotel Suriya resort is awesome! It’s a shame we’re only here for one night. We have been given a suite😮 – how posh is that? Fabulous views of the pool and the beach from our private balcony complete with hot tub!

After a lazy couple of hours in the pool we wandering into the poolside bar for a glass of the local coconut Arrack- very delicious😉. We sat and watched the sun go down.

We had a lovely Buffett style dinner in the hotel – an amazing curry soup with apple and coconut and  plenty of fresh fish and meat all cooked in front of us.

All in all a fabulous start to our Sri Lankan visit!

Sri Lanka

Well flight was good😎. We flew Oman Air from Manchester to Muscat ( 8 ish hours) – went quite quickly really. Food was great – everything was spicy but we love that! Fish curry was awesome. Drinks didn’t flow as readily as on Emirates – but we still got a nice red to enjoy our dinner with.

It was a bit of a rush in Muscat – no time to wander though the airport – in fact by the time we’d got through security we had to run to the gate as it was last call for our flight😮.

Muscat to Colombo was a much shorter flight 3.5 hours – what a treat! We’re used to the long 13 hour flight to Adelaide after our usual 8 hr flight to Dubai! Even tough it was a short flight we got fed – so all good😁.

Arrived in Colombo to be met by our guide for the week. It’s a bit strange- there are 28 couples on our tour and each couple has their own guide and car! Imagine how much that would cost in the UK!!

Manchester Airport

Made it through to the departure lounge eventually! We both got stopped at security. Gregg had his right leg searched and scanned!! (don’t ask🤣). I had my bag searched coz Gregg had snook in his deodorant and cracked heel cream into my bag without me knowing!😮. Then we left our boarding passes at the security desk  – think we deserve a quick aperitif now😎

Well it’s been a busy few weeks. We had intended to update our blog much sooner but due to family illnesses and ‘extreme’ babysitting 🤣 ( only joking, we don’t mind really!) we haven’t had a minute!  Anyway, today’s the day😎 – we’re off to Sri Lanka (yippee!). Just got some last minute packing to do – and we’re babysitting Henry and Daisy until 5pm😍. Then getting picked up at 6.15 for our 9pm night flight to Sri Lanka via Muscat.

Welcome to Our Blog!

A big welcome to anyone reading this blog we’re thrilled to have you join our adventures.

So first of all a bit about us – we are Gregg and Janine Farlam and we live on a narrowboat We feel so privileged to be ‘living the dream’.  Boat life is definitely a slowed down pace but we still manage to keep ourselves active and busy.

Our blog name is the Farlam Globetrotters – obviously it’s a play on the famous Harlem Globetrotters, but we feel it is a very apt description for us as we’re always jetting off around the world – partly because we love travel and visiting new places but also because our family has spread out around the world.

Our eldest son, Nick, moved to Canada 12 years ago to be with our lovely daughter-in-law, Emma.  They have a beautiful 10 month old daughter, Harriet, and live in Whitehorse, Yukon.

Our daughter, Aimee, married Chaz ( Mayor of Congleton 2017! 😛 ) in 2012.  They live in Congleton, England and have two wonderful children, Henry and Daisy (3 years and 21 months).

Craig, our youngest, moved to Adelaide, Australia to be with the lovely Brianna, now his wife.  They also have amazing two children, Summer and Micah (3 years and 1year). Although they are based in Australia, Craig is currently spending 9 months working as an outwardbound instructor for the Abernethy Trust in Kirkcudbright, Scotland – so we delighted to have them just up the road (well 4 hours away) instead of on the other side of the world!

As you can imagine we very rarely all get together so when we do it’s a very special time!

Some of you may remember that 2 years ago we had an awesome motorbike trip across Canada – West coast to East coast. It was an amazing adventure – with many very special memories.
We have very exciting times planned for the future and we hope you will join us on our adventures. In 3 weeks we will be travelling to Sri Lanka, just for 10 days – but we have a packed agenda 🙂 We are also planning a big trip in 2020 across Australia – we will probably hire (our buy) a campervan this time but who knows? we may change our mind and bike it again!! 🙂 In between we will be travelling up and down the canals in our boat and we plan to have a few motorbike trips across the Peak District and Scotland as well as family visits to Australia and Canada.
